Roma Saleyards backs RFDS charity sale this September

Published on 31 August 2026

The Roma Saleyards is pleased to announce it will welcome back the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) (RFDS) charity sales in September 2026.

The RFDS provides aeromedical retrieval services, along with primary and preventive healthcare services, to regional, rural and remote Queenslanders. In the 2025–26 financial year, the RFDS flew 624 patients in and out of the Maranoa region.

Throughout September, Council is encouraging the community to help keep the RFDS flying across regional southwest Queensland by:

  • donating a beast
  • giving a fixed amount
  • donating a percentage of a sale

The Roma Saleyards will waive fees on donations throughout September in support of this cause.

Maranoa Regional Council Mayor Wendy Taylor said Council recognises the important service the RFDS provides to the Maranoa community.

“Services such as the RFDS are integral to the lives of people living in regional, rural and remote communities,” Cr Taylor said.

“For people living and working on properties, in small towns and across remote parts of a region as vast as ours, distance can be one of the greatest challenges when it comes to accessing timely medical care.

“Council recognises that the RFDS plays a vital role in supporting the health and wellbeing of our communities. I encourage residents, producers and the wider community to get behind this important cause in September and support the RFDS in whatever way they can.”

Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) CEO Meredith Staib said support from initiatives like this makes a big difference to frontline services.

“We know country people are the lifeblood of our organisation and it’s their generosity that ensures our pilots, doctors and nurses can be there for people, no matter where they live, work or travel,” Ms Staib said.

“We appreciate the valuable support from Roma Saleyards and Maranoa Regional Council, and thank the local grazing community for their heartfelt donations.”

Funds raised from the donations will be focused on supporting the Maranoa region and, as the saleyards are known for their record-breaking sales, with your help, we hope September will be one of those history-making months.

Please contact your preferred selling agent if you would like to participate in this year’s RFDS charity sale.
