The first sale for 2026 was off to a firing start with just over 4,600 head of cattle yarded and a firm to stronger market off the back of last year’s sale.

A mixed yarding with all the regular processors, feedlotters and backgrounder present and actively bidding amongst the laneways.

Cattle were drawn from the local Maranoa supply district including Roma, St George, Morven and Injune.

The selection and quality of cattle on offer once again solidified Roma Saleyards as the marketplace of choice.

Netty Jenson from Lyndale Grazing offloaded a quality line of Simmental cross steers for an average 510c/kg to weigh in at 444kg for a return of $2,263kg.

Based 50km north of Roma, a pen of the Simmental cross steers fetched 518c/kg weighing 438kg to make $2,268/hd.

The line was consigned through Top X Roma pictured below with vendor Netty Jensen and livestock agent Cyril Close.

The Murphy’s from Charleville offloaded a run of Angus cross cattle across the day including an extensive run of steers fetching an average of 524c/kg weighing in at 263kg for a return of $1,375/hd.

Hailing from Charleville, a pen of Angus cross steers fetched a top of 570c/kg to weigh 260kg for a return of $1,481/hd.

The line was consigned through Ray White Rural Roma pictured below with livestock agent Lachlan Mann.

Whitton Cattle Co offloaded a quality line of Charolais cross heifers fetching an average 540c/kg to weigh 337kg for a return of $1,799/hd.

Five pens of the Charolais cross cattle from Injune sold for a straight 465c/kg weighing in at 337kg to make $1,569/hd.

The line was consigned through Watkins and Co pictured below with vendor Rick Whitton and agent Brad Neven, Leo Shaw, Braith Neven.

The Beardmore’s offloaded both steers and heifers at today’s sale, the heifers fetching an average 438c/kg to weigh 298kg to make $1,303/hd.

Operating out of ‘Tow Towri’ at St George, a pen of their Angus cross heifers made 545c/kg weighing in at 265kg for a return of $1,296/hd.

The line was consigned through GDL pictured below with vendors Murray and Brycen Beardmore.
