Under an overcast sky, cattle numbers surged at this week’s sale with just over 8,400 head of cattle penned, once again solidifying the Roma Saleyards as being the marketplace of choice.
This week’s larger yarding saw an increase of over 1,600 head of cattle recorded on last week’s sale.
The regular buyers, feedlotters and backgrounders were present, competing for the yarding which hailed from near and far.
A large portion of cattle were drawn from the local Maranoa supply district including Amby, Injune, Mitchell, Muckadilla, Roma and Wallumbilla.
The yarding also included consignments from Taroom and Dulacca, as well as from the western regions of Charleville, Isisford, Longreach and Tambo, and from further south, from Condoblin in New South Wales.
Stephen David Dickson of ‘Waipiro’, Wallumbilla, sold a pen of Droughtmaster steers, selling to 510c/kg, for an average weight of 310kg to receive a return of $1,586/hd.

AR, C & NJ Hamilton offloaded a run of Brangus cross steers fetching 516c/kg, weighing in at 368kg to make $1,902/hd.
Operating out of ‘Beresford’, Taroom, one pen of Brangus cross steers sold for 510c/kg for an average weight of 382kg to make $1,948/hd.
Another pen of Brangus cross steers fetched 528c/kg, to weigh 348kg for a return of $1,843/hd.

Brah-Lim Cattle Co Pty Ltd of ‘Boondoon’, Charleville, offloaded a large run of steers selling to 524c/kg for an average weight of 291kg to receive a return of $1,527/hd.
One pen of Limousin cross steers made 558c/kg, weighing 282kg to make an average of $1,574/hd.
Another pen of Limousin cross steers fetched 592c/kg, to weigh 254kg and make $1,504/hd.
