In December 2024, Roma Saleyards unveiled a stunning new handcrafted cow and calf metal sculpture celebrating the rich Maranoa beef industry.

The masterpiece titled 'It’s in the Jeans' was the winner of the 2024 Sculptures Out Back Roma Saleyard Acquisitive Prize, sponsored by Maranoa Regional Council.

The sculpture created by Chinchilla’s Dion Cross, a self-taught artist, will be permanently displayed at the Saleyards.

Dion's work is crafted from raw and discarded metals, symbolising the strong genetic link between cow and calf, as well as representing three generations of local cattle producers.

Maranoa Regional Council Mayor Wendy Taylor said the acquisition was an investment in preserving the beef heritage and identity of the Maranoa community.
